• is an interface definition for the creation of submodels in the form of modules, using "arbitrary" simulation languages (module generator)
• the modules can be integrated as submodules into all simulators, which support SMI (module simulator)

The Advantages

• easy exchangability (e.g. among working groups)
• numerical correct computation of the full module
• easy module coupling
• everybody can model with his simulator (create modules)
• everybody can simulate with his simulator (use modules)
• models can be distributed without the model source (knowledge protection)
